I am a beginner hunter (familiar with handguns, but not rifles) and don't want to spend a lot of money until I'm sure this is something I want to do long-term. I know I'm going to have to spend at least $200 on a decent scope, so would like to hear opinions as to why you recommend each rifle. Links would be greatly appreciated as well.
I know I want synthetic. Stainless or black barrel, doesn't really matter, but like the look of stainless. My friends have told me that 270 is a good all around rifle for deer, hogs, and just about anything else I will probably cross in the areas I'll be hunting, but am not opposed to other calibers either as long as they are not smaller than 270.
I appreciate your help.
I like shooting and I also would like to teach my children. I know hunting rifles are allowed and can be bought. But what about AIRSOFT (i.e. BB and Pellets) guns? I heard they just passed a law that would allow handguns to be sold. So I'm thinking---of course Airsoft would be legal.
Anyhoot, can any shed some light on this? Can I bring them in and/or have them shipped from America?
normally i don't head for the internet but.... so here is the story i met a girl and i like her but there are some catches. lets start with who i am. im currently in college making a 3.0+ 19 years old. i fight MMA, love to fish, hunt, camp, good with a wrench, have a pretty good amount of common sense, currently drive a car but want to trade it for a truck, and (although i have no intention of telling her...) come from a multi mullion dollar background. so pretty much an average overprivalaged Texan boy. she is a lower middle class not the best looking girl (btw from what i understand I'm not really "hot" but i am good looking), but pretty in my eyes, makes better grades than me but not by too much, runs cross country so she gets up at about 6 every day, she is socially akward ( I'm not the best but alot better).... not really a problem. okay now for downsides.... I'm pretty corrupt... meaning i drink alot, have smoked weed... alot but no longer like it at all.. while at the same time my roommates smoke... an incredibly about and out of boredom im growing a plant, own two guns a shotgun and handgun both unregistered (still legal), have stolen shit.... mostly simple stupid shit like signs, had sex, will never do hallucinogens, attend alot of parties/throw or organize my own parties and other peoples. thats just a basic idea of who i am now for her downsides or at least in my eyes. she is very catholic.... i dont really believe the bible is all true... but believe strongly in god, not sure if its a downside or up but has a brother stronger than me that also fights MMA, drives a prius.... i know i know dont judge but thats just weird to me after college i will probably be picking priu's out of my grill guard, doesnt drink (not a big deal at all), doesnt smoke... anything (great!), i believe she is a virgin! this could prove a problem to me ( would love a way to find this out or get an idea.... like maybe if i can see previous relationships in facebook or myspace) thats about all i can think of and to be honest i know what i'm gonna do already from just spilling my mind. still want advice and im gonna ask her out tomorrow. now gotta go coninue drinking my roommate under the table.
9mm or Larger???
Max weight of boar about 200lbs
Please give me the name of the caliber? Would a 40S&W be a good choice what would u use??
Ok here we go.. I know what the 2nd amendment is. The right to bear arms but with that being said what does that really mean? Does that mean having the right to carry any weapon we want as long as we have the license for it or is there a point when enough is enough? This is what i think. Hunters can own hunting rifles and everyone else can own handguns if they so choose but really there is no need foa a semi automatic rifle or ak47 on the american street unless there is some military action here which is highly unlikely. My point is this: Americans have the right to have guns but there comes a point when enough is enough. No citizen of any country should be able to outgun any law enforcement. now let me know what you think ok? try to actually leave smart comments and not reduce yourselves to childish attacks of my character.. thanks.
Spotted Hyena vs. Chimpanzee
Spotted hyenas have very powerful jaws that can exert pressure as much as 1000PSI and females can weigh up to 190 pounds. Rogue hyenas have been known to take down prey as large as wildebeest. Hyenas have always been looked upon as pathetic scavengers, but really,, hyenas are powerful hunters; hunting taking up 80% of their diet, while the other 20% is from foraging for small animals and scavenging. Lone hyenas have been known to steal kills from leopards. Scientists have recently been looking into hyena intelligence and have found out that they have higher intelligence than other animals in the order Carnivora, including big cats and canines.
Stats:
Length: 3-5.5 feet
Weight: 90-180lbs
Armaments: Powerful, bone-crushing jaws that can exert over 1000PSI, fairly intelligent, strong neck muscles, which can be durable when a lion or another animal attacks that area of the hyena.
Chimpanzees have strength that is of 4-6xs the average human male. Chimpanzees have been known to go into groups and kill leopards. They have been known to hunt with weapons, like spears and stones. They may go in groups have been known to take down antelopes and other primates, for their own nutritional sources. Chimpanzees can also learn how to use a basic handgun, like a magnum or a pistol. Combine that intelligence with their brutal strength, and you have a primate almost as deadly as a gorilla.
Stats:
Height: 4-5.6 feet
Weight: 80-170lbs
Armaments: Powerful, upper-body strength, 4-6xs stronger than an average human male, can be extremely aggressive, very dexterous, and very, very intelligent.
I either want a .357 mag, a .45 acp, a .44 mag, or the smith and wesson 500 or 460. I do have somewhat of a budget because I am in college. I am just wanting a gun that will put a deer down if shot at about 30 to 35 yards at the max. Thanks everyone for your help.
i live in north Carolina and me and my friend wanted to go up to Virgina to some property that his family owns to shoot a lot of guns and go hunting for a couple of days while camping on the property but we just turned 17 last month. i know you cant buy a rifle and shotgun until your 18 but i dont know the rules for driving with guns. i want to bring about 13 guns with me including handguns so his family who lives up there can shoot with us. is it against the law to bring guns with us while we're only 17 driving down there?
Is there a certain law for specific states, or do you need to be on private property, or have a certain amount of land and NOT near any neighbors? I see a lot of youtube videos with people plinking targets right from their decks with handguns and 22 cal. rifles and other weapons. Is that because they are in a HUGE chunk of land and no one can hear them, and its still illegal ?or is that because the state they are in allows you to fire a weapon on your own property as long as you're not near a neighbor? I remember my uncle used to own 10 acres in new york state to go hunting so im assuming if its your property, and not near others, you can do what you want, but i'm positive there are some gun laws involved here. help me out
Im 21 now but when I was 18 and 19 ( 2 different times) I was hospitalized for depression on the mental health floor of a hospital ( I was not court ordered..I was seen by doctors and I went along with them telling me to try and get help..I did not attempt suicide just strongly contimplated)...I had lost someone very important to me at the time and it was really a rough time.. I had access to guns the entire time ( I have quite a few rifles and shotguns for deer hunting and sport) but never attempted to use them on myself nor would ever use them on anyone else....It is 3 years later and I have been doing well and have not been on any medication nor seen a doctor in 3 years.... it was just a rough patch in my life.....I was wondering if this would hinder me from buying a handgun? I have not been on any meds for about 2 years nor have I ever been arrested or anything..just a ticket for following too closely..would I be able to purchase a handgun?
this will be a birthday present for my husband he does alot of target practice and deer and small game hunting

I first off want to make it clear that I am not some crazed lunatic thinking everyone is out to get me..I am a college student..live in a fairly large city and live in a new apartment complex...the city has a high crime rate and even though I live in really nice apartments things are broken into and vandelized here all the time..I was looking for a hand gun to keep near my bed or vehicle....I can not afford what I really want..Springfield xdm 9mm...and need a cheaper yet good alternative...What suggestions can you give me? ALSO..I already have a pump 20 gauge...pump 12 gauge..300 mag encore rifle with interchangeable barrels..2 50 cal muzzleloaders.. a 270 a 243 and a 30-6 semi auto for hunting but I doubt any of these would have good manuverablity if I needed to grab it quick or have it in a tight spot..so which hand gun would be recommened for me..on a budget..and also out of the guns I have which would be best for a backup in the bedroom
Edit- I am 21..have hunted for about 11 years..had safety classes in hunting and hand guns...
I'm starting to make a graphic novel. I'm not that good a drawer just yet but I'm improving.
Anyway, the premise is similar to Supernatural. Hunters that kill supernatural monsters. It's a team of 4 people who travel around Brittian in a motorhome.
A confident, strong willed yet kind hearted leader who doesn't socialise much and just wants to get the job done. He is a weapons expert and particularly skilled with a handgun, but is good at all types of fighting and has lots of experience and knowledge of hunting.
A quiet, cripplingly shy girl who is very intelligent. She enjoys fantasy and investigating and is very intelligent. She has a bachelors degree in engineering and is an expert on the supernatural and science.
A friendly, insightful, yet easily distracted man with a fairly bohemian attitude, looking at most everything positively. He is very determined when he sets his mind to something and has trained in several martial arts, as well as knowing fluent latin and greek, used when the group needs a translation or a ritual performed.
A rebellious, outgoing girl who loves the supernatural world and is a practiced witch. She is often quite critical, and can get angry at times. The newest member of the group, she is skilled at pyromancy, invisibility, telepathy and has limited control over spirits and the spiritual plane.
They will fight many supernatural beings such as ghosts, banshees, vampires, ghouls, werewolves, fairies, witches and more.
So yeah, what do you think?
I'm a very good shooter, I can handle any handgun, and I shoot a 12 gauge just fine. I'm looking for a rifle though and I don't know what I should get. I want something for deer hunting that will cover about 300 yards, isn't too long and heavy and is easy to handle. I want it to also be able to fire quickly because I don't want to mess with a lever action. Thanks!
Not so much your interpretation of the Constitution, but do you believe people should have any guns, only certain types of guns? Do you think it keeps people safer or less safe?
I personally think people should be able to have some types of guns, strictly for hunting. I don't see a need for handguns or automatic weapons in society, they always seem to be used in negative ways, and not as a means of "defense".
glad it's been kept pretty civil and no one has bashed different political affiliations or anything, and there have been some really good answers!
I live in Indiana, and apparently the law is that you cannot leave your property with your firearm for any reason until you get a carry permit. However, it takes 2-3 months just to get one. So my question is...
If I just want to go to an inside range to try my new handgun, what are the chances that someone actually asks to see my permit? And if I do get caught without it, what are the repercussions?
Bonus question: You can apply for either a "Personal protection" or "Hunting and Target" permit. What's the difference between them?
Thanks :)
This question was posted 2 years ago and, at the time, the answer was a definite "no". I know there's been some recent changes in legislature but I'm still very unclear on the subject.
My question refers to concealed carry of handguns, not rifles or other hunting-oriented weapons.
I am a CCW holder in Florida and Georgia reciprocates with Florida on concealed weapons permits. So I'm legal to carry elsewhere in Georgia, but I'm not sure about national forests. I'll be camping/hiking in Desoto Falls & the Appalachian trail later on this month and I want to do my homework before I arrive.
OK, here's the answer. When I posted this, I was waiting for a callback from the Forest Supervisor's office. Apparently Georgia isn't like Florida in that, when they say they'll call back, they actually do call back. (Florida never calls back). So I was told that the recent changes in legislate applies more to National Parks than to National Forests. National Forests fall under Georgia's laws. But the answer is....
Georgia's laws DO permit a concealed weapons permit holder to carry a concealed firearm in National Forests, so long as you do not enter a federal building. He reminded me that the visitor's center is a federal building and therefore off-limits. But as far as camping and hiking go, you're good to go so long as you have either a Georgia permit, or a permit from a reciprocating state (such as Florida).
Hi,
I am an avid hunter in AZ, I already have a 30-06 and 2 shotguns plus a bunch of handguns. I want to add another rifle to my collection, I usually use my 30-06 for deer but I want to hunt coyote, javelina, other predators and possibly more. I am looking for a gun that is light and can be used to take all of these animals, it needs to be smaller than a 30-06 though.
These are the ones I've been looking at.
Marlin 30-30
Marlin .444
.243 of some sort
45-70
Please keep in mind I want a simple and light weight gun.
Thanks
I live in a rural area in Southern illinois and am thinking about purchasing my first gun; for protection, hunting, shooting enjoyment. All of my friends and family have guns, I just never got one. I just sent off my VOID Card application and I'm not sure what to do next. I've considered handguns and shotguns, but I;m not sure what woudl be best for a first timer. I've never really looked at the guns at Wal-mart, are they any good? Basically I want a cheap, easy to use gun. Any suggestions?
Thanks
so yeah me and my friend just saw zombieland it was so amazing and it got me thinking about if this ever happened would i survive, so what do you think of my plan.
so in most zombie movies most people die because the place they are taking refuge is surrounded well what if i take refuge in a place that moves, that right I'm talking about an RV. Also people usual get bitten and i was thinking about getting a suit that would be impossible to bite through, but i don't know what would be a durable enough material, would a diving suit work or a leather biking suit? I'd also get things like a riot shield, a rifle, shotgun, handgun and a blade say a katana just encase i want to conserve ammo or it is a last resort. I'd also store a ton of backup gas on board. I'd plan on having 2 people follow me in a car or have a car attached to the back of the RV just encase the RV breaks or runs out of gas. I'd plan on going somewhere secluded like yellow stone where the water is clean, the air is clear and there are plenty of animals for hunting or fishing, just until things cool down.
note I'd probably have the katana and either a rifle or shotgun strapped to by back and the hand gun in a holster and I'd only use the shield in crowd control situations like if i need to plow through small crowd of them.
well i figure it would be hard to flip an RV unless there is a huge horde of zombies but we could move before they all gathered
Hello,
I am a 26yo Marine Corps infantry veteran, recent college graduate, and soon to be newly-wed. While I was in the USMC I had qualified both rifle and pistol expert. When I got out I moved to VA and purchased a .45(ACP) caliber pistol while in college, and continued to go to the range with it at least once or twice a month. As of graduation I plan to move back to my home state of IL, right outside of Chicago with my soon-to-be wife for a job opportunity. Now I am planning on purchasing a Mossberg 500 Field/Security combo for hunting and home defense in IL, mainly to give off the impression of a happy household. I also do not wish to register my pistol as VA has no registration laws, but IL does. While my fiance is generally not controlling, nor would she try to control me in this matter, I am sure she would have a little more peace of mind(especially if we have children in the future) with a legal shotgun in the gun cabinet, as opposed to an unregistered handgun. My plan is to lock my pistol up in its case and another lock box, and store it somewhere very hidden in our residence for a possible but not probable worst case scenario, and not for home defense. As it will be unregistered, I plan on only taking it out for immediate cleaning. My question is if say in 10 years hurricane Katrina x1000 comes through and ravages the country or something of that nature, registered guns are temporarily confiscated by authorities, and I have a need to use my pistol again, will my proficiency with this firearm have decreased to such a point that it is futile to even have it? Or will I be out of practice, but able to still apply the fundamentals of marksmanship(Sight alignment-sight picture, recoil management, etc)? I guess what I am asking as I learned to shoot in the Marines, and haven't taken time of since, is whether or not marksmanship is a sustainable skill without practice. My fiance is fine with the idea of hiding the pistol, obviously it would not be used in home defense as using an unregistered firearm, regardless of the circumstances would make me subject to various criminal charges.
To Michael;
I grew up in Southern IL, I was well aware of the FOID card, but was under the impression that guns must be registered. Now granted I haven't lived there for going on 8 years, maybe its like MD and other states De-Facto registration(required for guns sold from state dealers, but not for private citizens). Thanks for that info. As for the lockbox, that is the idea, however if I have children I think it best to still keep that hidden away real well. As a child(namely 11-13/14) I had a nack for getting into things I shouldn't, my old mans playboy collection, liquor cabinet, etc... All locked up very well, some hidden, but I knew they existed. Combine that with my then rebellious streak, had I know about my dad handguns, I would have most likely looked for it, found it, played whiteboy wannabe gangsta(no racism intended), and gotten myself in a mess of trouble. So keeping it very hidden and very secret is also part of the plan. Thank you for your answer, it was very helpful.
I can't quite figure out how to choose a "best answer" lol, sorry Michael
Gun control has never one time in history been proven to equal crime control. All the statistics I can find show that throughout history gun control has never worked. Take Australia, Great Britain, and the District of Columbia for example. In the US the states with the lowest per-capita gun violence and overall crime rate are the ones with the almost non existing gun laws. If guns cause crime, why do states like Montana where 95% of the populace is armed have such a low crime rate. The number of guns in the US has been increasing year after year, yet our crime rate has been steadily dropping. 38 states have seen a drop in their crime rate after enacting concealed carry laws. DC banned handguns, immediately afterward their crime rate skyrocketed while the rest of the countries went down. California has a much higher than average gun violence, yet they have the strictest gun laws in the country. So since no one has ever been able to show a case of gun control equaling crime control why do 65% of liberals despise guns? What is your true agenda? Also, why do you mention hunting when referring to the second amendment? What part of the second mentions hunting or target shooting? We all would like to see less gun violence, so why will so many liberals not get behind something that works? When you get rid of guns you have an environment where only criminals are armed, therefore they are far braver than they would be if they knew there was a good chance their victims could be armed.
I am an Independent. My opinion is both parties are corrupt, so this has nothing to do with the right. I'm asking this based on a debate I participated in in school. I just want to gain some info as to why so many Liberals support stricter gun laws when the ones we have don't work. I am for background checks, and anything that will truly help keep criminals and the mentally ill from obtaining guns. That is where it ends though, laws that do basically nothing but create red-tape for the law-abiding I see no use for.
Wow some of you ppl are so fucking stupid. Like the "cows in Montana" comment. Please look up per-capita please.
TD, could you share the statistics that show the states with lenient gun laws have as much if not more crime please? The answer is, no, I bet you can't. It simply isn't true so good luck with that.
LOL Paul RN, you are a classic example of just how fucking ignorant the gun grabbers are. Your answer is so baseless, and without fact it is pointless to even respond to. According to the most recent polls only 3% of America feels gun control is an important issue, while 73% of us feel the laws we have are enough. 44% thinks we have too many useless gun laws that do not work. Point is, my question is mainly driven by curiosity. The people with the "all guns are bad" mindset are so few it doesn't really matter what drives your ridiculous opinions.
Luke, if its the guns doing this why have the countries that have virtually disposed of guns not seen a drop in gun violence and their murder rates? I encourage you to do some research on the subject. For starters look and see who commits 0ver 80% of our gun crimes. Cars, cigarettes, swimming pools, and fast food kill far far far far more children than guns so do these things need to be banned? Ever wonder why school shootings didn't happen 50 years ago? Back then children had much more access to guns than they do now, they could walk into any hardware store, convenient stores, etc and buy them. Yet they never thought about shooting up their students. Notice that every major shooting in this country has happened in an area where the left has successfully banned guns, leaving ppl defenseless.
Im in the Yukon and I want to go shoot my handgun but they dont have a gun range. Is it legal to target practice with a restricted firearm if your not at a range?
I have my hunting license and i have already passed hunters education.
I am wondering if i can carry a handgun, for self defense, when hunting in Washington state at the age of 18.
According to RCW 9.41.060 Exceptions to restrictions on carrying firearms, (8) Any person engaging in a lawful outdoor recreational activity such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, or horseback riding, only if, considering all of the attendant circumstances, including but not limited to whether the person has a valid hunting or fishing license, it is reasonable to conclude that the person is participating in lawful outdoor activities or is traveling to or from a legitimate outdoor recreation area.
If this is the case I should be able to but i am not sure. I would appreciate any responses with people who have encountered this before, or have any information regarding to.
Thanks!
I meant to include that it would be open carry only.
I'm an avid outdoorsmen and love to hunt. I have an extensive collection of longguns but am looking to get a handgun. Any suggestions?
What would be a good asking price for the following handguns?
Baby Desert Eagle 9MM?
Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag Revolver?
Looked up the price for them new, but what would be a good price for a used gun sold person to person? i.e. guns not stolen or used in any criminal activity...please advise...
...they were owned by a US Ranger who is no longer with us, and his girlfriend is in need of money...
...thanks everyone...I got the 9mm sold for her...she only wanted $250...it went quick...us Soldiers and exMilitary, I guess are gun nuts...I would have bought them, but my wife says I have too many hand guns...I am going to buy a rifle soon before I can't...
i am not speaking of actual knowledge of how to shoot WELL. i'm thinking more of the technical stuff like how to unload a weapon safely, how to find the safetylock...
i consider handguns to be a common item in the western world, and i think such knowledge could be "common knowledge" as the one about -say- driving a car. However i feel biased, due to my cultural background (hunting tradition in the family, active military). your opinion?
think of it as of a short high school lesson about "never do this... because it results in ...."
my experience is that many people are acting as if the handgun was a redhot piece of steel. known danger is less dangerous.
in my country, for example, probably majority of gun related wounds are accidental shots from untrained, unskilled people... kids finding their dad's legal owned pistol and such.
/not to mention friendly fire during hunting sessions/
falcon5> no thumbdown from me. i am not speaking of the US, though. i am Czech, i do not know the stats, however by a rough guess, 15 percent of village population here posseses hunting guns. plural intended, for most hunters have a specific weapon for hunting ducks, specific for hoofed and boars, and one extra vermin gun.
i don't know the stats about pistols. :)
There are several points to consider as you answer:
1. States that have very strict gun control laws do not help to curb gun violence, but only make it easier for criminals to commit crimes with firearms.
2. Why is everyone who owns a firearm considered a hillbilly, redneck, militant, or nutcase? There are many responsible gun owners who are not rednecks or militants. And they're certainly not nutcases!
3. Gun Ownership is Not about hunting! So many Liberal politicians want to keep up the notion that its all about hunting. Its about self-defense, target practice, gun collecting, sports, home/family protection, and then hunting.
4. If the govt. starts taking away guns through gun confiscation, and this not about Obama paranoia, I mean like over a period of years through stricter gun legislation, what will you do about it?
5. Concealed Carry Should be allowed in all states with Shall Issue laws, allowing all persons who pass background checks, mental health tests, and safety training, and registration to be able to possess rifles and handguns.
6. And finally, should college students, or at least teachers, be allowed to have guns on campus, assuming they pass all the exams required to have a gun to reduce things like VA Tech and Columbine incidents from happening?
OK!
If you use a rifle to hunt, a shotgun to kill animals,
where does that leave SMG's and Handguns?
To kill people?
The Constitution gives you the right to bear arms (whereever you find bear arms) but killing is illegal.
The percentage of murders with handguns is 70%.
What possible use is a handgun and/or machine gun for?
Killing Werewolves?
I said handguns, not AK's.
Vlad, you are completely right. Guns don't kill, people do.
But that isn't working.
If your child got horrible grades because of TV, you would get rid of the TV.
If people can't stop killing/armed robbery, the right should be taken away.
It is too easy to get a Glock 77 and kill your wife.
okay so if im hunting shotgun handgun restricted area as long as i have either one im good but what if i had a handgun that shoots rifle cartriges? does it still count as a handgun and is it still legal?
I am a foreign national currently residing in California as non-resident alien (J-1 visa). I am interested in acquiring a handgun and a rifle for target practice. As far as I understand, the State of California does not restrict gun possession by aliens, but the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968 specifically prohibits gun possession by nonimmigrant aliens (922d5) UNLESS they have a hunting license (922y2A, part 2).
Is it correct that I shall be able to lawfully acquire California-legal firearms and ammunition after having qualified for and received my California Resident Hunting License, and that no other documents except such license and verification of legal status in the US will be needed?
What is involved in the practical portion of the examination? I have never fired or even touched a gun in my life, yet I wish to start hunting, and shooting seems to be a good activity to get into... and I also want to be a gun owner. I also intend to get the restricted license for handguns.
i am looking for a handgun to buy for hunting small game.
i would get the 10mm glock 20 but 10mm ammo is just to hard to find. Ill probably be shooting a lot of rabbits. i have never shot a pistol before, so i want a good beginner gun. Nothing that kicks to hard like the 45 mag or the 357
so with this given.. im guessing either the .22 pistol or a 9mm. what do you think?
also can either of these 2 pistols take down a mountain lion or a hog. i have some on my property, and would like to have something for self defense if i ever encounter any.
.44 mag. sorry
I'm a woman and I weigh about 125 lbs. I'm not worried about the handling, I was in the Army before and have shot M-16's. But I've never owned/shot a handgun before; and am unsure what would be a good weapon for me.
I've been looking into a Ruger SR-9 for quite some time. Any insight???
(I know this is probably the wrong section, but I wouldn't be using it for hunting OR outdoor recreation)
Hello,
I'm getting my Permit to Carry a handgun and was wondering when I complete the course, do I still have to take the fire arm safety class hosted by the DNR? I'm 25 years old and have not taken the fire arm safety class so I don't have the endorsement on my license to purchase a duck stamp or other hunting stamp.
Does the Permit to Carry class also constitute/satisfy the requirement for fire arm safety? I'm confused.
Basically, I want to be able to carry a handgun which I can get through the Permit to Carry class, but I also want the ability to be able to purchase a duck stamp and go duck hunting.
Thanks,
Brad
i've been here since april 2009 in the state of michigan
both of them
i am looking for preferably a kool looking handgun or rifle, must shoot more than 1 shot, under $180 must be pellet , leave store link or gun
i have a c11 and was wondering if it can take out small game like fox, squirrels, rats, etc...
For the 1st time ever I have both a Deer and an Elk tag.
Besides black powder, handguns, shotguns and .22's the only rifle I have is a sporterized 8mm Mauser.
I can get a Remington 770 with 3-9x40mm Bushnell scope in 300 Win Mag for $307.00 (After Rebate) + tax & background, but have been reading some not very good things about that gun.
Having a hard time convincing the wife that I should even spend that much on another gun :(
I've heard that for that price range the Savage/Stevens 110 pkg might be better, but it's more money, and I've not located a seller locally.
So the question is, if I don't get another gun, will I kick myself when I miss my shot at either a deer or an elk (or both)?
If so, should I look for just a single purpose gun, and use the Mauser for the other hunt? Or should I look for a dual purpose gun (like the 300 Win Mag) for both hunts?
Not necessarily looking for new, just something that shoots straight and flat, and can knock down the elk without disintegrating the deer.
Qbnsizzle - I also took my 1st deer in UT with a similar 8mm Mauser (my Grandpa's old gun). I'm in NV now, and bought this one 2nd hand a couple years back because it was so similar to that one. Don't recall the optics off hand. My issue is the range on the Mauser. It looks like the accuracy goes way down after about 200 yards.
my cousin just got robbed and i was wondering wats a good fire arm to buy? ps i do own other guns but none are for home protection(hunting rifles x2 , Assult rifle x1 , handgun x2 but not for home protection use )
ive been thinking about
these guns
FN five seven - 20 rounds 5x7
HK Mark 23 - 12 rounds 45 ACP
HK USP compact - 13 rounds 9x19 perebellum
if not tell me other good guns to look at
and i know how to shoot guns, no recoil is to strong just list a couple of handguns thank you :)
is it legal to walk around with a handgun when its loaded and has the clip in??? ... when we hunt with shotguns why cant the magazine hold more than 3 shells???
What if they've always enjoyed the outdoors?
Surely, if you go camping in the wilderness, you need a form of self-defense from any potential wild animals.
What if they come face to face with a dangerous wild animal and will be be killed unless they have a hunting rifle for defense?
Also, on the travel channel, they showed how bunches of black bears were roaming throught the streets and suburbs of New Jersey. If you live in a place where a bear can come out of the woods and roams the streets, you need some form of defense.
I understand them being barred from handguns since they can be concealed, but to ban them from even rifles or shotguns, would be taking away their right to defend themselves in case they go camping and they come face to face with something dangerous. And you can imagine how angry their loving relaitves would be if they got mauled to death all because they couldn't carry a rifle for self-defense.
So surely, there must be something they can carry for defense.
Otherwise, that's taking away their right to defend themselves.
If they get killed by a wild animal because they didn't have a rifle to defend themselves, then you can bet their relatives or friends would sue someone, and win...
"randolph",
so you're saying that they should be completely defenseless if they live in New Jersey and they face a black bear roaming the streets? That's wrong and you know it.
So does anyone know why Magazines put out their months issue so far ahead of the month we are actually in.
I just got my November 2009 issue of Combat Handguns and it is only August...Is there a reason for this?
I have got several magazines that do this from the Golf magazine to hunting stuff.
Am ask in the Hunting section because I do not know what categories to ask this in where people that subscribe to these magazines would be...
I just bought a hand gun i purchased a 40 caliber because it is strong enough to hunt with but i can also take it to the range and for home protection. Does anyone know do i have to contact my insurance company to let them know i have a gun? Would it just be to get the gun convered in case it ever gets stolen? Would my rates go up?
Also when buying a handgun from a pawnshop is there a waiting period and do you have to register it?
Not doing anything illegal just writing a story and would like to know.
The gun's a rifle if that makes a difference.
